Day 8 saw another upset as last edition's semifinalists Czech Republic were beaten by a spirited Turkey side to book a place in the last 16. Czech were leading 2-0 while losing their way in the final 15 minutes and losing in the dying seconds to a superb goal by Nihat. Switzerland got a consolation win as they beat the second string Portugal by a couple of goals.
David Villa once again was the star for Spain as he scored a dramatic injury time winner against Sweden to take Spain into the last 16. Russia on the other hand brought themselves back into the tournament with a win over defending champions Greece.
Croatia got the first upset of the Euro2008 when they beat tournament favourites Germany with a commanding show. And the night for the Germans were made even worse when Schweinsteiger was sent off in the injury time. It was a deserving win for the Croatians and even the German coach Joachim Low felt his team deserved the result.

The most important factor has been the timing of the announcement as they all feel it would shake up the morale of the team which has been doing well in the Euro. And the team cancelled the training and press meet on Thursday to avoid unnecessary attention on the coach.
Portugal continued their good run as they beat the Czech Republic 3-1 and stormed into the quarterfinal stage. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the tournament with a strike in the 61st minute. And the Turks broke the Swiss hearts as they came from a goal behind and edge the co-hosts in injury time.
